Come apart before you fall apart

Sometimes you just gotta watch the moon come up over a mountain!

I was able to step aside and spend time camping with my girls for a couple nights recently and enjoyed this view! It wasn’t anything big, just staying in a tent in our side yard. But the time meant a lot to each of us.

Mark 6:31 says, “And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” Jesus saw the need for Himself and His disciples to step back, step aside, and recharge.

I come back to that verse a lot in my thoughts (and my devotionals), probably because I need the reminder often. It’s sad how easy it is to get too busy for Jesus. I’m glad He’s never too busy for us!

Right in the middle of the stress of life we need to take breaks to recharge. A nap may help for a little bit. Coffee or an energy drink may boost you up…until you’re even more tired later. Candy may give you a sugar rush, but it’ll drop you down even lower afterward. Unlike temporary “quick fixes,” Jesus offers true peace and hope and perspective that’ll never let us down.

So the next time you feel like you’re about to fall apart, spend a little time with Jesus talking to Him about what’s going on in your life and then read His Word to hear from Him. After all, Jesus knows what’s going on, cares deeply about you, and is strong enough to always help. It’s a whole lot better to step back for a bit, to come apart for a moment, than to completely fall apart.
