We dissolved a cup of Special K cereal in water in that Ziplok bag and then used a strong magnet to pull out as much iron as we could. That black spot is just a part of the iron that was in there. It’s amazing what rises to the surface, even from our food! Thankfully iron is good for us, but the things that rise to the surface of our lives aren’t always quite so beneficial.
1 Peter 1:7 says, “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” When we’re tried by fire, it’s interesting what rises to the surface of our lives. Sometimes it’s only when things get difficult that we see what we’re really made of, what’s really inside us (or Who is).
How can we rise to the occasion?
Luke 18:27 says, “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.”
In context, that verse is talking about people getting saved even though they could be tempted to trust their own wealth. So if Jesus is able to forgive all of our sins and guarantee us a forever home in heaven and a permanent place in His family, we can trust Him to help us as we rise to whatever occasions life brings our way as we serve Him.
