Why is it that “fans” are sometimes the most critical?

Football season is back! Can’t wait to watch the Florida Gators play this Thursday! I enjoy being a part of several fan groups on FB, but some of the “fans” are always critical. Our top 2024 QB prospect just threw for six touchdowns and ran for two more in the first half of his first high school game this season. One “fan” was quick to point out that it was all done against a weak opponent!

Even in life, we often get harshly, unnecessarily, unhelpfully criticized by our own “fans,” —people who should’ve had our back. That hurts, and it’s absolutely devastating when we depend on the opinions of others for how we to tell if we’re doing the right thing.

“Let your conscience be your guide” is way better than “Let other people’s opinions of you be your guide.” And best of all is “Let the truth of God’s Word and the Holy Spirit living in you be your Guide.”

Acts 24:16 says, “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”

We should be willing to listen to criticism and consider if there’s any truth in it. But we should live for God’s approval most of all.
