Which boils faster: hot water or cold water? I tested it…and I’m still not sure! In my “experiment,” the hot water did boil first, but that might have more to do with the pan it was in or the burner it was on. One thing is true for us though: We won’t “boil over” and blow up in anger if we can learn how to stay cool.
If you’re already hot and angry and upset, it won’t take much to push you to a boiling point. And it’s so easy to get angry about something and then transfer that anger to something or someone else that doesn’t deserve any of it.
Proverbs 14:17 says, “He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.” If you get angry really quickly, realize that your anger is your problem even more than the things you’re angry at (after all, we’re responsible for what we can control, not for the things we can’t control).
Proverbs 22:24-25 says, “Make no friendship with an angry man;
and with a furious man thou shalt not go: 25 Lest thou learn his ways,
and get a snare to thy soul.” As much as possible, avoid close relationships with people who are always angry.
When we do “boil over” in anger, let’s apologize and make things right with the same passion we messed up with.
