I had some fun pretending to take the girls’ lunch away and asking them to show how they’d react (and it was some of their favorite stuff: taquitos for Addison and shrimp for Brooklyn!). But I’ve gotten looks like that for real plenty of times when I do something they don’t like. And I’ve learned there’s a big difference when I do something for a good reason and when I’m just being unreasonable.
Proverbs 26:16 says, “The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.” Whether it’s out of laziness or selfishness, we can all do things for no good reason. And there are plenty of wrong influences trying to make wrong sound right. We need to look to God and God’s Word for why we do what we do. It doesn’t matter what’s popular or trending: We should do what we do because God wants us to.
