If you take a hard bottle and seal a straw through the lid, you can’t really get a drink (random, but kinda fun to try!). Now of course you could just open the lid and easily get a drink. Sometimes opening up is the key.
Psalms 78:40-41 says, “How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness,
and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.” They wanted God’s blessings but didn’t want a consistent relationship with Him.
If we seal ourselves off from a relationship with God, we shouldn’t expect His best on our lives. I believe God often has great things, meaningful things, for us. But we’ll miss out if we won’t open up to Him.
Matthew 13:58 says this about Jesus: “And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” That was one specific instance, but it’s sadly repeated every single day in different ways.
