Misdirection

Show the top card. Put it in the middle of the deck. Snap your fingers, and “magically” it’s back on top again! Simple trick, and I’ll show you how to do it in the video version of this devo.
Like most illusions, it comes down to misdirection—getting people to not notice the most important things going on.

Satan loves to use misdirection, but God is willing to call us back to Him, to help us see what’s really going on. Isaiah 17:7-8 says, “At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel. 8 And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.” Because of their sin, these people were about to face punishment. But they would finally look right where they were supposed to look: at God, not the  worthless false gods they’d made. Hopefully, we don’t bow down to some homemade false God, but it’s still easy to look to money, fame, success, and so many other things instead of to God.

The devil tried to get us to look to ourselves instead of looking to God. Satan will try to convince us that we need to try harder instead of coming to God for salvation and help. Or that everything’s ok, that God isn’t real or doesn’t really care about sin. Or that we’re ok on our own. Let’s see through his lies and look straight at God all day every day.
