OPPORTUNITY! Really?!? I can take out a loan on my credit card? I’m sure those interest rates won’t be high at all!!!🤔😆 I realize some people have gotten into credit card debt after a series of difficult events and unforeseen circumstances and I’m not trying to even go there right now. But some things really can sound better than they actually are, and some things need to be completely avoided.
Proverbs 1:15-17 records this advice from Solomon to his son (and from God to each of us) about avoiding the traps of wrong influences: “My son, walk not thou in the way with them;
refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.” If traps are totally obvious, they’re easy to avoid. If we can see the pain and difficulty that wrong decisions will trap us into, we’ll be more likely to go a different direction. But some traps are hard to see coming. That’s why we need to read the Bible often and know the truth. That way, anything else will stand out as wrong. Proverbs 14:27 puts it this way: “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”
