Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

Which do you prefer to hear first: Get the bad news out of the way, or have something good to cheer you up before you hear what’s wrong? Well the good news is I don’t have any news of my own to tell you one way or the other right now, but God’s Word does have some bad news and then some even better news for each of us.

I’m reading through Micah in the Bible, and there’s a lot of bad news, punishment, and defeat headed toward the people of Israel because of their sin. But there’s also amazing hope. Check out the last 3 verses: “Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.” God never ignores sin. He loves us enough to show us where and when we need to change, and He also loves us enough to forgive and restore us.

And if you’ve never come to Jesus, let me show you the perfect example of a bad-news, good-news situation: Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Will you accept Jesus’ offer of salvation today?
