When you’re all wound up…

Epic windup toy race: Slinky Dog from Toy Story versus the pink flamingo from…the store! I think slinky dog would’ve stood a chance if he didn’t have a bad leg that pretty much made him go in circles! Fun little thing to do with the girls but also a reminder for the times we get all wound up with excitement, stress, disappointment, anger, bitterness, or other emotions or struggles and need the right outlet.

Proverbs 14:12-13 says, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,

but the end thereof are the ways of death. 13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.” Going our own way, doing whatever seems right or feels right in the moment will get us into trouble (even if no one “catches us”). And when life starts to stress us out or pile up on us, we need to wisely choose how to “let off some stress.” Wrong influences and wrong substances like drugs and alcohol might give a momentary distraction but drop us lower than we ever were before. It’s been said that “There is no situation so bad that some drugs and a few drinks can’t make worse.” When you’re all wound up and need to unwind, choose things that make your life, your situation, better not worse.
