We’re planning to go to the beach in a couple of days. Our girls have been before, but imagine if they hadn’t and I took them over to the sand volleyball court to try to explain what a beach is like! It’s still sand, but they would only get a little glimpse and have to realize that there’s even more even better things when they really see the whole thing. They’d have to believe me as I described a huge beach at the ocean and trust me that is was just a picture of the better things coming their way.
In the Bible, Nicodemus faced a challenge that was something like that. John 3:7-8, Jesus tells Nicodemus, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” In verse 9 “Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?” Jesus says in verse 12, “If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?” If we believe what we can see of God He will show us even more, even better, even bigger and deeper things. God has way bigger and better things than any beach for us if we’ll believe Him and trust Him.
