If you have a favorite team, are you a casual fan or a dedicated follower who sticks around during good years and bad? There’s a big difference between a fan who might have the right clothes and stuff to display and a loyal, devoted, committed follower who lives it inside and out.
Sadly those same options carry over to the way people view Jesus as well.
Romans 2:28-29 says, “For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” The Apostle Paul was explaining that following Jesus has to start on the inside, not just some outward, skin-deep show. We can’t all become Jews, but we can all be Jesus-followers.
Maybe you’ve got everyone around you fooled into thinking you’re a Christian, but that won’t matter one bit in eternity. I hope you’ll be real with God, admit your sin and need for a Savior, and trust Him today.
Maybe as a Christian you’ve got everyone convinced you’re right with God when you know inwardly there are a lot of things you need to fix. May we always care more about God’s opinion of us more than anyone else’s and always care about being right more than looking right.
