Which “weapon” would you choose if you were digging a hole? What about if you were going into battle? This is exactly the type of “weapons” the Israelites had when they faced a fight in 1 Samuel.
1 Samuel 13 tells us that “there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears…So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan:” 1 Samuel 14:20 tells what happened: “And Saul and all the people that were with him assembled themselves, and they came to the battle: and, behold, every man's sword was against his fellow, and there was a very great discomfiture.” The Israelites won the battle. Their weapons didn’t have to be good enough because God‘s weapons are! It doesn’t matter what you don’t have if you have Jesus. It doesn’t matter how many are on their side if Jesus is on your side
Skipping ahead a few chapters, David told Goliath, “And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:47) Maybe we’d say that God doesn’t save with bank account or worry or social media advice. He doesn’t save with human wisdom or our ability to figure it out. There’s the expression “never bring a knife to a gun fight,” and maybe you feel like your bringing a garden tool to a life fight. But you’re all set, ready to charge into the battle, if God is with you and you rely on Him, not yourself.
