Storms Come and Go but Our Response often Lasts a While

Kinda fun little winter storm yesterday! The ice won’t last long, but we try to always make these storms fun for the kids! Brooklyn and I even did a little sledding. Whether it’s a winter storm or a storm of life, rough weather often doesn’t last long, but the attitude we choose during a storm can change everything for a while afterward.

Job is a man in the Bible who went through one of the most epic life-storms ever. He lost his children and just about everything he owned all in one day, and yet he was still able to respond with the right attitude: “Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,” (Job 1:20).

How was Job able to keep his faith even after getting hit by tragedy after tragedy? Because his faith was strong BEFORE the storm came. Skip back up to Job 1:1: “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.”

I’ve heard there are 3 kinds of people: those in a storm, those coming out of a storm, and those about to be in a storm. Most of our storms will never look anything like Job’s, but as Job 5:7 says, “Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.”

It’s not IF we’ll face storms but WHEN we will. But what’s important is HOW we face them. If you’re in a storm right now, keep your faith in God. If you’re in the calm before the storm, grow so strong with God that even a storm can’t shake your faith. If you’re just coming out of a storm, praise God for carrying you through.
