Our New Pup Stays Close to Home…for Now

Brinkley stays close to us and close to our house when we go outside. She’s young, and we don’t have to worry about her running off…YET! As she gets older, I’m sure she’ll get more independent and want to go her own way.

It’s normal for dogs to do that, but it’s sad when Christians do the same thing. Revelation 2:4 says, “Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” That verse is said to a specific church and time period, but we can all lose our first love for Jesus if we aren’t careful. When we first trust Jesus as our Savior, there’s an excitement: It’s easy to read our Bible, go to church, pray throughout each day, and become more like Jesus. But as we grow older as Christians, it can become easy to drift away from God, to go off on our own and think we don’t need God as much anymore. But just like our pup needs to always stay close to home to be safe, we need to stay close to our Savior so we don’t fall into the traps of sin all around us.

Whether you’ve been saved for 10 minutes or 10 years, let’s all stay close to Jesus today and everyday. And if you’ve drifted away, come on back home. Jesus will be glad to see you!
