“Monumental” Trip to Washington D.C.!

Good time in our nation’s capital on Tuesday! Everything went smoothly as Addison got her cast, and then we had fun seeing some of the sites. It’s amazing how serious they take security, especially around the White House! Fences and guards not only surround it but also the buildings around it.

And that’s how we should protect ourselves from temptation and defeat as well. We should guard against things before they blow up into huge problems. Job 31:1 says, “I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?” If you have wrong desires or wrong actions, start by guarding what you see and what you think about.

Maybe that isn’t something you struggle with, but the principle applies all over the place. Don’t settle for just guarding what you do: set the boundaries back farther by guarding your mind as well.

One of the worst weapons Satan uses to attack Christian hearts and minds with is discouragement and depression. We don’t always wanna talk about those struggles, but they are very real. Based on the Bible, I know Satan can’t defeat the church, but based on a bunch of recent conversations, I believe he is doing a lot to discourage us.

So how can we guard against discouragement, depression, and defeat? A good place to start is to stay open to Christ and fellow Christians. Remember God’s goodness even when you’re dealing with a lot of bad. I recently heard a song called “For the Moments I Feel Faint” for the first time in years. One of my favorite lines from that song says, “Never underestimate my Jesus.” I don’t doubt the size of what you’re going through, but I hope you won’t let discouragement make you doubt the size of Jesus!

Remember what’s true, pour your heart out to God, and spend time with good people. Some of the most encouraging words in the Bible, repeated hundreds of times are, “It came to pass.” Circumstances come to pass, not to stay. With God’s help, victory is possible.
