Is a Little Enough or Do You Want MORE?

I told the girls they could eat some Skittles after I took this picture and it really didn’t matter how many they caught. But they still eagerly held their hands up to get as many as they could and wanted MORE! That excitement and effort is natural when it’s a candy we want, but how sad is it that it’s often not natural when it comes to our relationship with Jesus.

Genesis 32:24-26 records the unique story of Jacob wrestling with the Lord. Obviously the Lord could have easily won any time, but Jacob’s effort is rewarded: “And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.”

Warren Wiersbe puts it this way: “God meets us at whatever level He finds us in order to lift us to where He wants us to be.” But how many of us would’ve given up and walked away before we got a blessing? When you spend time with God, do you pray until you’ve “checked a box” or until you’ve gotten a blessing? Do you read the Bible until you’ve “read enough” or until you’ve gotten guidance and encouragement to help you for the day?

How much of Jesus do you want in your life? How much effort is your relationship with Him worth to you? We can’t ever do enough to earn our salvation, but we can do our part to grow that relationship after we’re saved. Let’s come to Jesus wanting more each day and stay with Him long enough to get every blessing He has in store for us.
