God Always Remembers Us. Let’s Never Forget Him.

Which hand does Brooklyn (my daughter seated closer to the camera) write with? What color is Brooklyn’s water bottle? How about the lid? What 2 school books were shown? Hint: they are both the same subject. What color are Addison’s headphones? Feel free to look back at the picture and see how you did! If you’re anything like me, it’s easy to not notice details and also to forget what you’ve seen.

Judges 3:7 says, “And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves.” Verse 9 says, “And when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.”

This pattern of forgetting God, sinning, facing the consequences, and then finally remembering God and getting help is repeated throughout the book of Judges many times. It’s depressing how often that terrible cycle happened in Israel, and it’s depressing how often it can happen in our own lives as well. But one amazing thing that’s also included in Judges is the phrase “angel of the LORD.” Like many others, I believe that phrase refers to Jesus appearing on earth in the Old Testament, and it happens more times in Judges than any other Old Testament book!

We might think Jesus wanted to forget about those sinful people, but instead He remained present, actively and even miraculously involved in their lives. Each time they forgot about God, they just needed to remember Him and come back to Him. And that’s often our need as well. If you wanna come back to God but think you’ve gone to far, take a step toward Him and watch Him come running to you!

God never forgets us. Let’s take time to remember Him today.
