One thing that every gift we gave or got at Christmas had in common is this: They didn’t have to be earned! And the girls don’t have to earn them now in order to play with their gifts or keep them. And that’s exactly how God loves us.
Like 19 tells the story of Zacchaeus, a (“wee little”) man that got to experience Jesus’ love even though he was living a selfish, immoral lifestyle when he first met the Savior. Luke 19:7 says, “And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.” Other people there thought Zacchaeus was too bad, too sinful to deserve to spend time with Jesus, but Jesus knew that this is exactly the kind of person He wanted to love and impact. You might think you’ve messed up too badly for God to ever love you or accept you, but that’s just not true. His love is never-ending because it depends on Him, not us.
You might feel like every day you have to earn God’s love, but Jesus proved that His love doesn’t have to be earned when He died on the cross for sinful people including you and me. If you’ve never placed your trust in Him, I hope today you’ll come to Him and experience the greatest forgiveness and unconditional love there is.
And that love goes beyond eternal salvation and should also impact our daily lives. Even on our worst day Jesus still loves us perfectly, and I hope His love will motivate us to become more like Him.
