What Are Your Favorite Christmas Traditions?

I wait all year to bust out that Christmas jacket! And the girls enjoy that countdown Christmas tree (we read daily Bible verses AND they get  candy each day with it!). We also watch Muppets Christmas Carol at least once each Christmas season. It’s tradition! Christmas traditions are wonderful and hopefully include the real reason for the season, but let’s also make sure Jesus is affecting our actual daily lives, not just our Christmas traditions.

Luke 7 talks about 2 people who spent time with Jesus. One was a religious leader who apparently accepted Jesus as a good person but rejected Him as God, and the other was a well-known sinner who came for (and got) forgiveness.

Luke 7:36-38 says, “And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. 37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, 38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.”

Verses 48-50 say, “And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? 50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”

It’s great that the Pharisee wanted to spend time with Jesus, but it’s tragic that he doubted Who Jesus really is. On the other hand, the woman entered the house as a hopeless sinner and left with the hope of heaven and her sins forgiven.

So who are you more like this Christmas season? Is Jesus a fun part of your Christmas season or the reason for the season? Is He part of the decor or part of your daily life? Have you invited Jesus into your house this Christmas? How about into your heart? What about into your daily routine and decision-making process? No matter what Christmas traditions you have, let’s always have room in our lives for Jesus.
