I love how easy it is to adjust our focus…when using a camera! It can be a little more difficult in life.
In Joshua 9, some people fake the Israelites out. They realized that God was behind Israel, giving them victory after victory, so they trick Israel into believing that they’re from a long ways away and can easily join in a peace treaty. Joshua finds out the truth too late and hears their explanation in Joshua 9:24-25: “And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were sore afraid of our lives because of you, and have done this thing. 25 And now, behold, we are in thine hand: as it seemeth good and right unto thee to do unto us, do.” It’s really sad that they knew that God is real and in control and yet they never began a relationship with Him! They knew the truth and sadly did what it took to try to sidestep the truth instead of accepting it for their personal lives. They could have stopped rejecting God and placed their fatih in Him, but instead they kept focusing on nothing more than survival.
Unfortunately, this reminds me of what happened when God Himself came down to earth. Here are probably the saddest Christmas verses in all of the Bible: “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” ( John 1:10-11). Whether it’s the Old Testament, the New Testament, or 2022, everyone has a choice about what we’re going to do with God. He’s shown us that He’s real, He’s loving, He’s good, and He wants a relationship with us.
If you’ve never accepted Jesus as your Savior, this Christmas season is a perfect time to take a fresh look at your need for Jesus.
