Simple Doesn’t Always Mean Easy

It’s the simplest thing in the world: All you have to do is flip a silly bottle into the air and have it land upright. I’m sure you’ve probably tried it, and if so you can most likely agree that it’s simple…but not necessarily easy!

Deuteronomy 30:11-14 says, “For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? 14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.” I love the clear wording in these verses! The Israelites knew what God was telling them through Moses. In many ways, it was simple…but not always easy.

Even for us, living for God is pretty simple but not always easy. We KNOW what God wants us to do, but DOING it can be hard sometimes. Thankfully God knows how needy we are and loves to give us mercy and help. Psalms 103:13-14 says, “Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.”

It really comes down to 2 things: Being willing to obey God, and then relying on His strength and mercy to do it. It’s that simple, and with God’s help, we can do it even when it’s not easy.
