Have you ever had a “conversation” with someone who was eager to talk but not willing to listen to anything you said? Very frustrating! We like to be heard, to have someone listen to us and care about what we have to say. Thankfully the girls *usually* listen to each other. There are many “conversations” in life that are unfortunately one-sided, but meaningful communication requires both talking and listening.
I hope you have some good listeners to talk to, and God definitely loves to hear from us in prayer. He’s a great listener and cares more about us than anyone else ever could. But I hope our conversations with God aren’t one-sided.
Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” And James 1:22 says “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” Salvation comes by hearing and responding to the Word of God, and right living comes by hearing and then living out the Bible.
If our relationship with God consists of asking Him for things but never listening to His Word and following it, we’re missing out on at least half of the conversation.
