One thing about these cars: they’re a lot more useful once they’re shaped right! I used to race these in the AWANA kids program. My uncle would shape them for me, and my dad and I would finish getting them ready to race. It was fun, but I don’t think an unshaped car like this would do too well!
Romans 8:29 says, “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” It’s the “shape” we should become more and more like: the image of Jesus. So how do we become more like Jesus? How do we get “in shape” spiritually? By staying in the builder’s hands. A pinewood derby car has to allow itself to be shaped, and we should too.
Some days, God probably has to use a spiritual belt sander to knock off our rough edges and make us more like Jesus; other days it’s probably more like fine sand paper. Either way, if we aren’t becoming more like Jesus, we’re becoming less like Him. We are made in His image; let’s represent Jesus well today. Check out more encouragement on social media:
