Small Seed, Big Growth—More Than Just Acorns and Oak Trees!

We enjoyed time in Charlottesville the other day at Forrest Hills Park. We had fun trying to feed acorns to the squirrels and took a moment to be amazed that such a small seed can grow into such a huge oak tree. Little things often grow into big things, and that’s definitely true when we invest in other people.

Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” When you sharpen a knife, you help it become what it was made to be: a blade that’s ready to do it’s job. God has given each of my girls and every one of us an amazing purpose, jobs to enjoy for God’s glory and for the good of everyone around us. When we help others grow, we are helping them become who God made them to be.

Let’s notice the value of people in our lives and help them see how they can use their talents to each fulfill God’s unique calling. If we’ll take the time to say things like “You’re really good at _____. I could see God using that talent to do something amazing;” or “I really appreciate that you always ______. We need more people who are willing to help out,” who knows what those “seeds of purpose” might grow into. Most successful people can remember at least one person who believed in them as they were growing and developing into who they are today, and when we invest in others, only time will tell what that investment might grow into.
