We talked about what’s happening with Hurricane Ian and prayed for all of those affected by it, and then I wanted the girls to think about what they would need in a hurricane. We shouldn’t be in any danger here in Virginia, but we had some fun “prepping” anyway. They each got to grab whatever 2 things they wanted. Not sure how much an umbrella, a drink, chocolate chips, and an art kit would help during a hurricane, but Psalm 16 describes 3 things that will help in any kind of storm life brings our way: something strong to hold onto, hope for the future, and someone to go through the storm with you.
Psalms 16:1 says, “Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.” During a storm (whether a hurricane, a financial storm, a relationship storm, or other kind of “storm”), we need a “life preserver” to hold onto that will keep us safe. God is the only One Who will never fail us no matter how stormy life gets.
Psalms 16:5 says, “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance.” God wants to be our portion, our inheritance, our hope for the future. Even when life gets dark and stormy, God offers us strength and hope we can count on.
Psalms 16:11 says this about God: “In thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” I’m glad God’s presence is there no matter what everyone is going through right now with Hurricane Ian or any other “storm” that’s coming your way.
God truly is the One we can hold onto during a storm as well as our hope for the future and the perfect one to have with us during a storm.
