Not sure who said this first, but it’s definitely one of my favorite quotes. I enjoyed watching the moon come up over the mountain last night and taking pictures as it seemed to get brighter as the night got darker.
“The darker the night the brighter the light” is usually said to encourage Christians to keep letting our light shine for Jesus even as the world around us gets darker spiritually. While that is true, this quote also holds an amazing encouragement for each Christian as we try to shine for Jesus in a world that often rejects Him: The darker the night for us personally, the brighter Jesus’ loves will often seem to shine.
Psalms 34:18-19 says, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
The moon was just as bright in each picture; it just seemed brighter as the night got darker. And Jesus is “the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” as Hebrews 13:8 says, but He often seems closer and more loving when our own circumstances get darker…if we’ll keep looking to Him and calling out to Him for our hope, help, and encouragement.
