Have You Ever Done a Trust Fall?
Addison had no trouble falling backward knowing I’d catch her. Brooklyn was willing to do it with a smile on her face as long as she felt my hands on her back and knew I was there. Trust falls can be scary, but they’re a lot easier when you know someone is there to catch you, is strong enough to catch you, and cares enough about you to not let you fall.
Thankfully, when God asks us to trust Him, He assures us of all 3 of those things. We just need to be willing to commit ourselves to Him and His perfect plan.
In Exodus 16 and 17, the Israelites had 3 opportunities to trust God BEFORE they saw how He would meet their needs. Unfortunately, the first two times they choose to complain instead of trusting.
At one point, there was no food, and Exodus 16:2 says, “And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.” God still lovingly provided manna, a miraculous food supply that fully met their needs. Next, Exodus 17:1-2 says they “pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink. Wherefore the people did chide with Moses.” God miraculously provided water out of a rock, and then a third test came by verse 8: “Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.” Thankfully, this time they stepped up in faith, trusted God for the victory, and won a great battle.
Every time there was a problem, God had a solution. Every time they ran into a bump in the road, they got to see God do something amazing! They could’ve rested in God’s provision, trusting Him the whole time. Just like the Israelites, our response to problems can change from complaining to trusting, from freaking out to resting in how great God is.
Have you ever done a “trust fall” with God, obeying and following Him even when it’s difficult, scary, or doesn’t make sense? God is always with us, always strong enough to catch us, and always loves us enough to hold onto us when the journey gets difficult.
