I Told You So!

It happened again! My wife shared a good idea with me about how zip ties will work instead of trimmer string, and I had a choice: go for it or doubt her idea and then hear her say those dreaded words “I told you so!” Thankfully I knew she was probably right. I gave it a try found out that it does work pretty well. I don’t think my kind, sweet wife has actually ever said “I told you so” to me, at least not in seriousness, but ignoring good ideas is always a bad idea!

As bad as it to ignore good advice and risk hearing “I told you so” from a person, ignoring or rejecting good advice from God is even worse. 1 Kings 9:6-7 records God’s wise warning to Solomon: “But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: 7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them.”

1 Kings 11:4 tells us that “it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.”

God’s too loving to ever say “I told you so,” but He’s also so loving that He warns us of problems to avoid. Solomon brought the punishment God warned him about, but we can make a better choice. When’s the last time you said no to something you knew God said is wrong? How about the last time you did something just because you knew God wanted you to? God may never say I told you so if you do wrong, but He’d love to tell you “well done” for making right choices.
