I am thankful to be an American! That flag is right by our church sign and I appreciate both our country and the many freedoms that it gives us to worship and enjoy a level of freedom that doesn’t exist in much of the world. It’s easy to do nothing but criticize America’s faults, but we can all use our freedom to make America better instead.
Freedom is never free and I am so thankful for every man and woman who has fought and even died sacrificing to make our nation free and to keep our nation free. The price of freedom should motivate us to use that freedom for the best things, the right things, to live lives that are worthy of the sacrifices made for us.
Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and bought us liberty that goes beyond political issues and American rights: the ultimate freedom from sin for those who accept His offer of salvation by placing their faith and trust in Him. If you’ve never experienced that freedom, this Independence Day is a perfect opportunity! If you are a Christian, I hope you’ll use your liberty the right way. Galatians 5:13 says, “For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” Let’s use our liberty, our freedom, as an opportunity to choose the right things, to choose to love and serve each other and help our nation and our world come to Jesus, the One Who offers the only eternal freedom, freedom from sin.
