Choose the Right Direction…You’ll End Up Going Farther Than You Thought

Up the hill to church or straight ahead to…almost anywhere else?!? Choosing the right direction is important because the road often twists, turns, and takes us a long way. Thankfully it’s not too late to turn around. We often say that we live in the land of many U turns since Route 11 is a divided highway. Our youth group sarcastically talks about “U turn for Jesus” (probably because the youth pastor makes some wrong turns on trips sometimes 🤦‍♂️). There are a lot of places to turn around on our road, but in life one wrong turn often makes the next wrong turn easier.

1 Kings 12:16 says, “So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.” I can understand most of Israel  walking away from the selfishness of king Rehoboam, but they also walked away from the temple and then ultimately from God. At first, they thought they were just walking away from a tough political situation, but the direction they took took them far away from God.

It’s easy to think it’s just a job, just a sport, just some friends…but if those directions takes us away from God, it’s time for a U turn!

Has church changed from going every service to every once in a while? The choice to miss church often takes us farther than we meant, and it’s been said that the danger of missing church is that soon we won’t miss it.

We can also think, “It’s just sleeping in a little longer” and end up walking away from our Bible reading and daily time with God.

Or we might think, “It’s just a little sin” and end up choosing that sin over God…again and again.

When you start walking away from God in any way, for any reason, the devil will try his best to get you to keep going. Anyone need to make a U turn today?
