Show Off!

We’ve definitely enjoyed our time “farm sitting” the last few days! The girls loved seeing all the animals and helping take care of them. Yesterday the peacock fanned out his feathers almost the whole time we were there and even shook them (freaky sound until you know what it is!). The donkey was calm and a bit shy but did let us pet him and see the cross shape on his back (Jerusalem donkeys like this one are thought to be the breed that carried Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday). We enjoyed all the animals but noticed a difference between these two for sure:

The peacock often shows off, trying to get attention for himself (and usually gets completely ignored by the other peacocks!).

On the other hand (or hoof!), the donkey simply lives his life, symbolically reminding us about the meaning of the cross on his back.

We also have a choice who we help others see. Proverbs 20:6 says, “Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?” That peacock constantly shows of “his own goodness” to get attention, but the donkey faithfully reminding those around him of the most important message ever: salvation through the cross of Jesus! I know I’m probably exaggerating a little bit with these animals, but as people, we always have a choice to show off or show others the way to Jesus.
