It’s Spreading!

Science fun: We got to make the volcano, paint it, and make it erupt! The science kit included sodium bicarbonate and citric acid…with red coloring, so pretty much baking soda and vinegar (almost)! As you can see, it “erupted” nicely and also spattered red all over the place (even on the counter). Easy cleanup but lesson learned: Some things spread farther than we think they will.

The effects of sin spread like that too. I’ve heard it said that “you can pick your sin but you can’t pick your consequence.”  Proverbs 13:15 says it this way: “The way of transgressors is hard.” It’s easy to think we can handle our sin and any consequences that come, but sin will spread into areas of our lives we never saw coming and affect us more than we ever meant it to. It’s also been said that “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.”

Thankfully there’s something else that spreads farther than we expect. In 1 Thessalonians 1:7-8, Paul had this to say about some people who were spreading hope: “Ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad.” God used them to spread hope through the message of salvation to everyone around them. Their example and influence reached beyond what they probably ever thought possible.

What about you? What’s spreading in your life? What’s your example spreading to others? Good or bad, it’s reaching farther than you realize!
