Opinionated Post Warning: I don’t like crocs…especially in the winter! I do appreciate my wife Jen modeling hers for this picture, and I know some people would always wear crocs if they could. I’ve seen a bunch of teens wearing crocs even with snow on the ground (usually with socks, which is just terrible). If you try to convince me that crocs are better than real shoes, I’ll tell you that there’s a hole in your theory (and your shoes!). If you want to wear crocs, even in the winter, you go for it; but we can all agree that putting on the right footwear is important.
Ephesians 6 tells us about some even more important things for us to put on. Verse 11 instructs us to “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
God offers all of His children the protection of this armor; our job is to put it on…all of it. Satan loves to attack weaknesses, and it’s ok, normal, human to have weaknesses; but that’s why God’s supernatural protection is needed every moment of every day. Are there any parts of the armor that you need to adjust or put on? Ephesians 6:14-16 describes the parts of the armor of God; here’s just a quick thought about each part:
“Loins girt about with truth”: Hold the truth tightly: Read God’s Word, listen to it preached, and live it out.
“Breastplate of righteousness”: As Christians, we’ve been given Jesus’ righteousness that can never be taken away, but we also need to live with integrity or we’ll be open to attack.
“Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace”: We should constantly be ready to go share the message of salvation to anyone who will listen.
“Shield of faith”: If you lower your shield for even a moment in a battle, disaster may strike. Life comes with battles; let’s keep our faith in God, keep looking to Him for our hope and help.
“Helmet of salvation”: As Christians, we can move forward in the assurance that no matter what happens right now, better things are coming. And God not only holds our eternity; He’s also in control right now.
“Sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”: If we know the truth, we can fight back when Satan attacks us with lies, discouragement, difficulty, and temptation.
Crocs or no crocs, you’ll be ready to face each day if you take the time to check your amor first.
