I’ve been accused of hating on Crocs lately (Tate😏), so here’s a positive look at some really weird shoes (oops, more Croc-hating!). Jen apparently has Crocs for any occasion, and I appreciate the fun pics people sent since my last Crocs devotion post. Maybe you prefer to be causal, relaxing or working outside. Or maybe being a little more dressed-up, going out for a meal is more your speed. Maybe all the different activities these shoes represent pile up into a stress-filled race to get everything done sometimes. I’m glad we all get to enjoy different activities, but I’ve noticed that it’s easiest to take things one shoe at a time.
Matthew 6:34 says, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” In context this passage is telling us to seek first the kingdom of God and not stress over what’s next. Doing what’s right right now frees us from having to worry about what’s coming. If we are putting off what we know we should be doing or only partially obeying God’s plan, we’ve got plenty to be stressed about. But doing what we’re supposed to now can free us from the stress of the “other shoes.”
I often jokingly challenge teens to try to put on both shoes at the same time, but as far as I know, no one has taken me up on that challenge yet! It’s just easiest (and a lot less stressful) to enjoy one thing at a time instead of trying to solve all the world’s problems at once.
Extra Bible Reading I Try to Do Each Day
Psalm 36:1 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes. 2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful. 3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good. 4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil. 5 Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. 6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast. 7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. 9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. 10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart. 11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me. 12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
