Warm Up

We did a science experiment last night…We inflated both of these balloons to the same size, kept Addison’s in our nice warm living room and put Brooklyn’s out in the frigid cold (I still love cold weather, but wow it was cold last night!). Both balloons had the same air in them and started at the same temperature. I had never tried this before and honestly thought the outside one would either pop or shrink a whole lot more, but even after just one night in the cold, that balloon is noticeably smaller (especially when you hold it). Galatians 5:16 says, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we immediately receive the Holy Spirit, and He never leaves! But we do have a choice each day whether we “walk in the Spirit” or go our own way and “fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Christians have the Holy Spirit living in us, but if you’re anything like me, sometimes it’s easy to shrink spiritually. Instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to constantly fill me and lead me, I sometimes try to live my own way (which never ends well). Thankfully, God has a solution. 

Galatians 5:25 says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Both balloons are back inside now, and I’m sure the one that was outside is already filling back up to regular size. The Holy Spirit always stays with us, but sometimes we need to “fill back up” spiritually by taking a little extra time with our Savior and His Word and by making sure we are allowing the Holy Spirit to be the One leading us. If you or I had to spend last night outside, we would have quickly noticed the cold. When we become cold spiritually and drift away from God, I hope we will notice and quickly do what is necessary to “warm back up” spiritually.
