That's a Really Big Snowball!

The biggest snowball ever! (Photo credit: Guinness World Records). It’s over 10 feet tall and was made by students from ASME Michigan Technological University. They added a little more and a little more until they had this giant!

It made me think about what can happen in a snowball fight: Someone hits you with a snowball…so you hit them with a BIGGER snowball (or 2 snowballs!). They hit you with an EVEN BIGGER one, and before long, you’d both be chucking this giant one at each other if you could lift it!

Snowball fights can be fun, but it’s amazing how anger can make us want to do more and more, worse and worse, bigger and bigger stuff to get back at people. And it’s all usually a whole lot worse than a snowball fight as we throw angry words (or objects!). We need to make situations better and better, not worse and worse!

Proverbs 25:21-22 says, “If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.” If we are willing to be kind and loving to people even when they are angry or rude to us, we can help things calm down instead of escalating into some ridiculous mess. God has a reward for us when we do that, but if you are most excited about the “heap coals” part and wish it could involve literal flames instead of the “burn” of conviction, you might be missing the point. God will show the other person that they are wrong, but remember what Proverbs 13:10 says: “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” Instead of assuming it’s the other person that’s the problem, let’s be willing to do our part to help the situation.
