I was stuck! Yes, that is my finger in the back of our steering wheel. We were traveling down the interstate recently, and of course I needed to see if my finger would fit in the little hole (why not, right!). It went in easily enough…but wouldn’t come back out! I could have kept trying to get it unstuck myself, but I’d probably still be attached to my car. I needed help, but I had to admit it first. Jen was 2 feet away in the passenger’s seat, and she was happy to help…once I asked (and she had stopped laughing!). With her help, I got my (slightly scraped up) finger out, and thankfully there were no sharp turns to make before that!
Psalms 86:7 says, “In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.” God loves to help us, but how many times do we get stuck in life and try to fix the problem ourselves without asking Him for help? Many of us stay stuck, desperately trying to get ourselves out of a problem instead of calling out to God. Or we make the problem worse with what we think is best instead of asking God for what only He can do.
Imagine if I kept putting my finger back into that silly hole every time I drove. Eventually, Jen would probably cover the hole up to stop me from creating the problem to begin with. Just a few verses later in Psalms 86:11, David says, “Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.” Let’s live God’s way and make sure we aren’t creating problems for ourselves, and any time we get stuck (whether it’s our own fault or not), let’s be quick to call out to God; He wants to help us.
