I came to the playroom last night, and Addison said she was teaching Brooklyn karate…but Addison doesn’t know karate! Apparently Addison’s “karate” involves some very interesting swords! I’m glad they were having fun, but it’s also clear: Brooklyn will never learn karate from Addison! Outside of silly fun, it matters where we look for help because the right help helps us grow while the wrong help pushes us further down into the problem.
Psalms 61:2 says, “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” We should ask for help when we need it, but it amazes me how often we ask the wrong sources. Instead of seeking advice from God’s Word or from people who are doing their best to live for God, we will jump on social media or ask a bunch of people until we eventually find an answer we LIKE, even if it’s not actually helpful in the long run. People may fail us but God never will.
I’m burdened for everyone affected by yesterday’s tragedy at Bridgewater College. My prayers go out to the families who lost loved ones and to everyone who is hurting, angry, or afraid right now. I feel helpless to do anything for them, but I’m so glad that God is able to draw near to them and help in ways I never could.
Whether you’re facing a tragedy, a decision, or just wanting the right help for your day, ask the One Who knows best to help and guide you, and make sure God’s voice is the loudest influence in your life. When was the last time you dug into the Bible to look for answers, hope, direction, and encouragement for what you’re going through? Today’s a great day for it!
