Imagine the Rest of Us Competing in the Olmypics!

Olympics…for us normal people? I can enjoy watching the elite athletes do their thing, but I’ve seen a couple people imagine an Olympics for the rest of us, everyday people competing in those events!

Just imagine you and me trying to ski down those mountains or flying downhill in a bobsled! Cameras better be rolling because it would be entertaining (and probably painful!). I think there would be hundreds of steps I’d need to take just to be able to complete most of those events, let alone come even close to competing in them. There are a lot of skills I just don’t have.

Unlike the Olympics, every one of us has everything we need to develop our relationship with Jesus; we just need to be willing to develop the things listed in 2 Peter 1:5-8: “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We don’t need elite skills or talents; we need to allow God to help us grow these skills each day. If an Olympic athlete fights against their coach for four years, they’ll never be ready to compete. If we allow God to work in us and through us each day, if we are willing to work on any weaknesses He shows us and make any changes He calls us to make, we will develop spiritually one day at a time.

The hardest step of any journey is often the first one, so Satan will work hard to try to keep us where we are. If you’ve placed your faith in Jesus as your Savior, be diligent in becoming more like our Savior today…and even more like Him tomorrow.
