Pro tip for driving: It’s helpful to be able to see out of the car before you drive! Any of you ever try to drive with just a little circle of the windshield scraped clean? I actually did that this morning…but only to move the vans across the church parking lot so Pastor John could plow.
Spiritually, the concern is often not that we can’t see what’s right in front of us; it’s that we let less important things distract us and pull us aside. Proverbs 4:25 says, “Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.” In other words: stay focused on what’s most important. Verse 27 tells us to “Turn not to the right hand nor to the left.” If you go off the side of the road, you’re headed for trouble, and we get ourselves in trouble spiritually when we allow anything or anyone but God to become our focus. The end of verse 27 challenges us to “remove thy foot from evil.” Is there anything distracting you, pulling your focus away from God? If so, you may be headed toward something far more dangerous than a car accident!
