For those who don’t get this, Weis is a local grocery store chain that recently bought a couple Sunnyway grocery stores (another local store). This chicken game had been around forever (it seems), but when Weis took over, the chicken disappeared…until a couple days ago when they made the Weis (wise) decision to reinstate it.
Apparently the public outcry has brought the chicken back! They faced the “hard truth” that the chicken, though old and outdated, is loved by us locals!
Most of the time, communicating hard truth is a lot more serious. It can be difficult to know if we’re ready to speak criticism to someone or if we’re just doing so to make ourselves feel better as we put them down.
A lot of the time it’s when we can do so with no ill will or anger in our spirit. That’s when it won’t come out in our speech and when we can truly help someone grow.
Colossians 4:6 says, “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
It’s ok to be a little “salty” when it’s done out of a heart for the other person not against them. Actually, that’s just being loving and helpful, not salty the way we use that word today.
Checking our hearts before we offer criticism is always a wise decision.
