2 of the most misused words in the Bible: “Judge not”

“Don’t you just me” is a common attitude, but is it a Biblical attitude?

Matthew 7:1-2 says, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”

Verse 5 says this to the person who focuses on judging someone else’s issues while ignoring their own: “Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.”

We need to see sin for what it is and help get rid of it (always in our own lives first and always to help not condemn).

Only God can truly judge someone’s heart and motives, but if we never want anyone to judge our choices or decisions, maybe that’s because we aren’t willing to judge ourselves and deal with the junk in our lives.

So yes, we are to judge…Biblically. That always starts with judging ourselves and then involves looking for ways to help others, not criticize them. And of course we always need to protect ourselves and our family from wrong influences.
