Light bulb moment?

Back in high school, my dad shared a funny “theory” (for those who don’t know, my dad taught me math, physics, and chemistry in high school, so a lot of real ideas but this one was just for the fun of it).

The fun theory is that light bulbs don’t actually give off light: they absorb darkness. As they suck up the darkness, light shines out. Fun to joke about, but obviously that’s not how light and darkness work.

1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭6 says, “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:”

John 1:4 says, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

Darkness can’t drive out light, but light can always drive out darkness. Are we letting the light of Jesus shine into every part of our lives?

Isaiah 9:2 looks forward to Jesus coming with these words: “The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light:

they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” That prophecy was specifically for a specific group of people, but Jesus came to offer salvation, light, and hope to all of us. Why would we ever be content to walk in darkness?
