How could a loving God…?

My family and I are very blessed, and life’s pretty good right now. But we’ve probably all had times where we’ve asked that question.

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭18‬-‭19‬ ‭says, “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”

It’s common to look at all the bad in the world and question how a loving God could allow it.

God is real. He is all-powerful. But He is also perfectly just. Sin has consequences. I don’t believe the bad we see is always a specific punishment on that person’s specific sin, but we’ve all sinned. We all deserve punishment. But God is so merciful, good, and loving that He didn’t abandon us. He doesn’t give up on us. He wants to reconcile us to Him, to give us a forever relationship with Him if we will repent and believe on Him through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus took our sins on Himself and allowed Himself to die a criminal’s death on a Roman cross to pay our penalty. That made a choice possible for each of us: Run to God for forgiveness and salvation or keep running away from Him.

I agree with the question “How could a loving God…?” I can’t wrap my mind around how God can be so loving to offer a sinner like me forgiveness. I don’t understand why He wants a relationship with me. I don’t know why He willingly goes through each day with me, helping me in so many ways. I just can’t understand how God can love us as much as He does!
