One of our favorite Addison stories from when she was younger is the time she woke up crying, upset over a nightmare (sounds terrible, but it really was funny what had upset her). She said in her dream we were going to make her eat a green bean! Talk about scary!
When it comes to our diet, we could probably all eat more of what we should eat, and spiritually we need to focus on what we should do not just what we’re allowed to do.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 says, “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.”
Obviously some things are just plain wrong. Sin. Out of bounds. But even though something is not a sin (it’s lawful), that doesn’t mean we should automatically do it.
Our decision-making needs to be about what we SHOULD do, not just what we’re allowed to do.
And that has to include what will help build up those around us.
