What is the Bible like?

How do we read the Bible? Like a textbook that we have to read to complete an assignment even though we aren’t sure if it’s relevant to our lives? Like we’re doing a book review (all about our opinion)? Or like a roadmap, a survival guide, a love letter? (Jen gave me that letter on our wedding day.)

Mark‬ ‭4‬:‭24‬ says, “And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.“

If we read the Bible or listen to preaching and spend the whole time deciding if we agree or not, we’ll get very little out of it.

But if we come to God’s Word with open ears and an open heart ready to take it into our lives and live it out, God will make sure we get a lot out of it.

So if the Bible never seems to speak to you or seem relevant to your life, ask God to prepare your heart ahead of time and be eager to dig in for yourself next time you read.
