What is God like?

Some see Him as nothing more than a judge like we often see in the Old Testament. Other view Him as the loving Jesus Who welcomed children in the New Testament. Both of those are true but only part of the complete picture of Who God is.

We’ll never have an accurate, complete picture of Who God is apart from understanding His righteousness. Yes “God is love” as 1 John 4:8 says, but He is also righteous and cannot ignore sin.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Maybe that’s the true picture of God’s love: not that He approves of our sin but that He loves us so much He made a way for our sins to be paid for and forgiven.

This was a fun science experiment we did tonight on our last night of VBS 2024. We used styrofoam to represent our sin. Acetone (nail polish remover) ate through the styrofoam almost instantly. It was a great picture of how Jesus wants to take away our sins.

No matter how well you currently understand everything about God, I hope you can call Him your personal Savior, the One Who forgave your sins and made you new.
