We need help but God does not

Recently I was holding a little baby and helping him stand up a little bit. The girls were excited that he could stand now, but only with some help. Reminded me of times our girls could “stand” or climb as long as they had some help (can you tell which girl is which?)

Also reminds me of the power of our great God and His eagerness to help us stand in life.

1 Samuel 5:2-4 says, “When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. 4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD;”

Their false, fake god needed help just to stand, but we don’t have to help our God or hold Him up. And He sure loves to help us.

Psalms 27:13 is one of my favorite verses: “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”

Instead of apologizing for the things about God that some people reject, instead of trying to hold God up, let’s allow Him to hold us up.

We don’t need to try to change Who God is or what His Word says or try to help Him fit in with our culture or be more “acceptable.” People need God, not some changed, weaker version of Him.

Let’s hold onto God and let Him hold us up today.
