Wait, where’d he go? When is he coming back?

I really wasn’t gone that long, but the dogs were eagerly watching for me to come back.

In Luke 19, Jesus tells a parable about a nobleman going on a journey and what he expected his servants to do while he was away. The whole point is that Jesus would go away and then come back again, and He has some things for us to do while He’s gone. Verse 13 says, “And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.”

Jesus ascended to heaven after His death and resurrection. He will come back again one day soon. We live in the “in between” time waiting for Him.

We are supposed to wait, but that waiting should be active waiting. Just like the servants in Jesus’ parable, we should occupy—do business for Jesus while we wait for Him to return. We should faithfully do all we can with what Jesus gives us. We should allow Jesus to use us each day just as much as we would if we knew He was coming back today.
